A faint throb, the
rain, a brook, a drum, a waterfall.
She swims out of her tears as her
clay body shatters under a still
full moon revealing a human heart
that beats for what, for whom,
no one will know.

-STRINGS OF BROKEN HEARTS-

She stands: A terracotta statue
to an ancient idol, amid rugs of
sand. Stands aloof, detached,
brittle clay that may, through
sheer will, just last forever,
wearing a simple ceremonial gown
that aims to hide a human shape
and within it a heart that could
materialize and shatter sending
a million pieces to the universe
in ceremonial offerings for
health or peace or overwhelming
happiness. Around her neck three
strands of broken hearts shine in
the morning light, the hearts of
those she bent and broke, hearts
torn out of men’s chests and held
up to the light during one final
beat of suffering and life. She
stands majestic, tears marking
her ancient terracotta stone,
a feeling and a heart both being
born and with these her pain,
her happiness, an ocean of emptiness
and longing. A faint throb, the
rain, a brook, a drum, a waterfall.
She swims out of her tears as her
clay body shatters under a still
full moon revealing a human heart
that beats for what, for whom,
no one will know.
